Sympathizing with Us

| Vicky Bentley’s Blog

Hebrews 4:15: For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses: Jesus was not ashamed to humble Himself to become like us.
He was more than willing.
He wanted to prove that He understood our pain,
knew the door of escape,
and was full of power to deliver.
He understands us perfectly
and is willing to give us all we need!
What are you afraid to bring to Him?
What sin was committed against you that you fear will cause Him to shrink back in repulsion?
V  Man does that…
V  God doesn’t!
What have you done that keeps you from sleeping at night?
V  Regina was frustrated with her daughter’s misbehaving, took her hand and plunged it into the fire.
V  Soldier tore open the belly of a woman pregnant with twins, showed them to her, and shot her.
V  Dear friend of mine fell into sexual sin; the guilt was literally killing her.
Is His arm too short?
V  Isaiah 59:1-2: Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.
V  Genesis 18:14: Is anything too hard for the LORD?
V  Jeremiah 32:17: Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.
The temptation that caused Jesus His greatest suffering was the temptation to take up His own will instead of God’s. If you are here seeking to life a wholly surrendered life for His glory, that should be doubly sweet to you.
V  The pain it costs you to walk away from that relationship
V  He knows what it feels like to be mocked at work
V  He knows the pain for rejection you feel from your unbelieving husband
V  He understands why you cry yourself to sleep at night…in fact He keeps your tears in a bottle…..
V  He was made like us in temptation so we could be made like Him in victory – Hallelujah, what a Savior!
